In these difficult economic times I’m trying hard not to say, “I have to go to work.” I’m trying to say, “I get to go to work.” And on a day like this one I’m especially grateful that I get to go to work in a place that looks like this. I took this picture from the sidewalk in front of 2709 Monument Avenue ten minutes ago. And now?
I’d better get to work.
Jim,
That is a beautiful picture of the church. I love the fall colors. Have a great day!!!
Ah…. my beloved “little vatican;” FBC Richmond.
Congrats on your anniversary! Is ministry anything like you expected? For reflection on this anniversary, here is Martin Luther (from Table Talk):
“A good preacher should have these properties and virtues:
first, to teach systematically;
secondly, he should have a ready wit;
thirdly, he should be eloquent;
fourthly, he should have a good voice;
fifthly, a good memory;
sixthly, he should know when to make an end;
seventhly, he should be sure of his doctrine;
eighthly, he should venture and engage body and blood,
wealth and honor, in the Word;
ninthly, he should suffer himself to be mocked and jeered of every one.”
I’ve watched fall at FBC for 66 years now, and it’s always lovely — the beautiful fall colors with a bright October blue sky or a soft Irish mist — God’s world is a wonder, and it is good to be involved in a work one loves! For many years I drove down Monument Avenue on my way to work, and I always smiled as I passed FBC and thought of all the good memories associated with that corner! I’m glad we’re blessed with you, and you with the FBC community. Happy Autumn!
