This morning I’m meeting with a group of clergy from Richmond–some Baptist, some Methodist, some Episcopalian, some Presbyterian, and at least one MCC pastor. We’re going to talk about this coming Sunday and what we plan to preach, as always, but I’m also going to ask them if they will partner with First Baptist Church in this mission of bringing the Kingdom of Heaven to Richmond, Virginia. I think there are a thousand ways to do that, and surely the Methodists, the Presbyterians, the Episcopalians, and the MCC’ers know some of those ways.
If God loves this city, and If we love this city, and if our congregations love this city, then surely we can put not only our hearts, but also our hands, to the work of the Kingdom. Surely we can do something in these next twelve months that will bring heaven a little closer to earth.
That’s the challenge I’m going to lay down over coffee this morning. If they can pick it up, and if their churches can do the same, then we’ve just added a few hundred more missionaries to this effort, and brought the Kingdom that much closer.
